For me at least.

Not a "real" DIY (but then again...maybe it is), but a nice way to drip acclimate fish or just adding fresh water to your tanks. Maybe others are already doing this but I just started yesterday.

Was getting tired of trying to rig up tubing from my water jugs to the filter to slowly drip in fresh water to a couple sensitive tanks. Can get quite aggrevating. I even tried the knot thing in the tube. That didn't work very well either. Hard to squeeze that knot in with the tubing.

So yesterday while setting up a new drip line during a water change, my eye just happened to catch something on my fishy shelf.

A spare one of these:

Now the one I have is a two-gang but still the same.

Made one tube from the jug to the valve. Attached a smaller tube from the other end of the valve to the back of the HOB. Start syphon and adjust accordingly. Was even able to hang it right off the back of the HOB. No hassles...No worries...No mess.

Sooooooooooooo much easier. :woot:

these are handy too. I got mine from usplastics.

Thanks for the good idea - I've been doing it that way but I place the intake in the tank instead of the HOB filter which could keep the intake securely in place.

After graduation from airstones & airpumps to Powerheads, and then from Powerheads to magnum 250 HOB's, I also have quite a bit of old tubing and air-valves I no longer use. But old air-valves whether manifold or single make excellent drip acclimation regulators. However now that I have my water well balanced it seems I never need to use drip anymore and just place an air-stone in the bag and float the bag, then use a turkey baster to change out the water 1 ounce at a time and that seems to be enough now.

But the air valve is a great idea for exactly regulating drips per minute for acclamation.
