Hello all,
1st lets start off by saying that im am new to this forum I just ran across it the other day and would like to say thanks to any and all help that i can get in advance.

2nd i am not new to keeping fish.I have had many healthy and productive tanks in the past but they have all been 20-50 gal set ups. Never had a chance to go bigger till now.
pluss every tank i have ever had was bought as a complete set up.(now on the other hand..lol.) So here is the set up i am starting..

Build as of 04-23-2010

* 200g rimless tank (not finished or cycled)
* 25lbs p-gravel (brown,white,grey in color) 1/2 to 1 inch size
* 10lbs Black standard gravel 1/2 inch in size
* 15 lbs river rock 3 to 4 inch in size

* 3 tank items (skull,dragon,and dead tree all riged for air.) I know this is not realy needed on this post..but...i just made a list and its on there....lol..
* No plants (real or fake atm due to not knowing realy what i should keep in this kinda tank.)
* 2 200w MarineLand underwater heaters(prob going to one since it will be a cold water tank.)less then 72f/22c
* 1 HoB (well my case side.) TopFin 30 filter (just for water fall effect not for filtration.)
Building 2 Diy canister for filter system.(under tank style).(pump size not known at this time). but somewhere around 200-300gph each.but dont know.(p.s) i can buy one to fit tank just want to do the DIY thing.)
* Lighting un-known ATM (need help on this issue.)
* exp. fish.
1 or 2 Koi fry ( till they out grow tank then straight to the Koi pond)
1 or 2 Fancy Golddies ( then same as Koi)
* Ideas Needed for Tank Mates *

so if you have any ideas in size of my DIY pipe canister filter pumps,lighting,ways to cycle tank(with or with out starter fish)
live plants or fake plants. etc...all idea are welcome..

Thanks again in advance

:welcome:

Your set up sounds pretty cool.

I don't have any monster tanks myself, but the one thing I noticed was that since you are keeping goldfish & koi in there for the time being, you will need to stick with a coldwater tank. Might get some good ideas on the "General Coldwater and Temprate Water" section of the AC!

I am not sure if you can safely keep much else in the tank with the golfsh and koi.. (so I have read).. but if you wait until they go in the pond, then your options open up a lot!

Also, it may very well depend on the size of your esiting golfish & koi, since they will eat smaller tankmates. How big will you grow them out before they go in the pond?

Welcome to the AC! I know you will find lots of great advice on here!

well to safely raise Koi and not do any damage to there growth i would only keep them in the tank till they hit apox 5-6 inches. if i just kept Koi in there i could keep them til they hit aprox 8 inches(just 2 Koi) and no other fish.Tank not big enought to properly raise KOI in it. I said Koi and Goldies cause i have them readly avalable. A friend of mine is a Koi breeder and just had a mass spawn(so there not of show type stats) but still a Koi is a Koi and IMHO the best fish in the world. So i am realy open to any kinda of help and info on all other fish breeds.I have been looking a lot in to a small school of Cardinal Tetra and some Angles think that would be cool and a great show piece but i do not know what the ideal temp is for them...i realy wanted to have a cold water tank as stated in org.post but i do have 2 heaters..lol...
Thanks for the reply Ara..
...all other replys welcome
thanks
Matt..(AKA Azirail)
