rams changing color

i have had my rams for almost a week and already i can tell some diference in them

one (i suspect hes like the alpha male) has the best colors and the longest point on his dorsal fin, and he displays alot

the second is like the male but rarely displays to the 2 females

and the two females are almost exactly alike

also my little betta changes color when he sees the big betta he goes pale and when its feeding time he has a white stripe down him


any one else notice that there fish change color or am i watching them too much?

many fish have the capability of making their colors more or less intense depending on their 'mood'.

I also think that its a showing of subbmission, especially with the betta. If you have all those rams in the same tank I'd reccomend pulling a pair out and getting them their own tank, and you'll see the behavior change in the less dominant male. They aren't too finicky with their mates so I wouldn't worry about trying to make sure you get two that are already and established pair. This is going to be especially critical if one pair decides they want to spawn, I can tell you that only one pair will be tollerated in the tank and that will be the spawning pair. One of my pairs just spawned in my 40gal, and all hell has broken loose in there. On the upside though I think that with the other fish in there with them, its reinforced the parenting drive so they are going on 2 days now, and the eggs are still there, and they are behaving quite a bit differently than i have seen before. Just becareful with the two pairs.

Hey fishdude, just wondering where you got your rams since you're from VA. None of the stores near me (within 45 minutes) carry any except PetCo, and from what I understand theirs aren't too good.
