View Full Version : All-Glass Tank on a Perfecto Stand?

I bought a used 150 gallon Perfecto Tank /w stand on craigslist. I'm dumping the tank, and bought an 150 gallon All-Glass tank new from the LFS. Unless I'm imagining things, this tank is definitely heavier than the Perfecto. It's either due to thicker glass being used (I read All-Glass do in fact use thicker glass than Perfecto), or it being taller than the Perfecto by 1 and a half inches (which kind of begs the question how can they both be 150g if the dimensions are identical except for the height?).
Anyway, I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the weight difference with respect to sticking this tank on the Perfecto stand. I would assume the Perfecto stand would be designed for the Perfecto tank, but if using a different brand of tank I would guess all bets are off.
Should I be worried?

Hight is definitely a predominant factor in glass thickens. The deeper the column of water the more pressure is increased to all areas of the tank. Why it make no difference how large a swimming pool is dunk tank vs ocean, but how deep you dive before you feel pain in your ear drums and they rupture.
Wish I was their to collect that 150 CL tank your dumping, nothing like the adventure and sense of accomplishment over a bargain project to take stock of and converse over with friends once refurbished.
Congrats on the addition.

Why are you dumping? Is the glass compromised? Are the seals shot? Is the glass scored? When can you drop it off? How much will you give me for it?

I posted about this tank in another thread, but to make a long story short there are scratches and hard water/salt stains on the front that I can't seem to get rid of. If anybody is local to the Annapolis, MD, USA area you are more than welcome to come and take it off my hands. I was gonna put it on craigslist after I get the new tank mounted on the stand for free. Either for free or maybe for like $100 or something (haven't decided yet).
So I take it I shouldn't worry about the Perfecto stand being able to support the All-Glass tank?

Those stands are made to withstand twice the full weight of a given aquarium dimension. for example, if its a 75/90 stand they manufacture the stand to support twice the full weight of the 90... This is an industry standard... This is why you NEVER hear about "how my stand broke", or "my stand just collapsed"

All it takes is using the best side usually the back for the front, polishing compound and elbow-grease. If I took stock for every time someone told me that a CL tank was a lost cause I have 1 tank instead of that look like brand new.
Darn what a deal. If you place it back on CL free it will be gone in 24 hours but I think you could get at least $150 if it still holds water even if it is stained and had a few scratches. You might consider a terrarium or reptile tank which is what it might have been made for in the first place and why the glass in thinner and tank lighter and scratched up so bad. Perhaps its not a fish tank at all.
