:help2: I have just noticed a couple of small hydras in my cherry tank. it doesnt have much filtration/flow so today i am going to add another mini/20 gallon aquaclear on it. i already have one on. What can i do to get rid of the hydras? do they harm my shrimp?

Eeep! Well, fisrt of all, wwtch your feeding. Overfeeding can bring in hydra. If you see them all over something (check filter intake tubes, as they seem to like the flow), take it out and clean it off really well.

Well i feed every other day with my cherries. and my tank is not that flow-y. I think i have an aquaclear 20 on it but the sponge drasticly slows down the flow so the water is very slow moving. i only see them on the glass and they arent that large. Are they hurting my shrimp?

Do chili rasboras eat little hydras?

The only thing they will do that I have heard of is eat really small baby shrimp. Hydra ain't very big.
Chili rasboras might eat them.

Okay because i was planning on buying some chili's and habrosus from Rach on Monday. Even if i starve the tank i believe the hydra would survive since the abundance of decapods -.-

Yeah, as long as there is food, they will be there. When you get the chilis, clean the sides real well. Hopefully the chilis will eat them as they float around.

I would just do it right away. No guarantee they will eat them, but I would think they would. When I had an issue with them in a tank, it just resolved itself when I added a betta, so I would bet that adding a fish will help.

What if they dont eat them? wouldnt that just move them into another spot to settle?

No. They would still be there, just in different spots.
Actually, your chilis will probably help the situation more by eating the microcrustaceans that the hydra are feeding on, like daphnia.

I got rid of all of my hydra in my shrimp tank by lowering the water level for a week. It increased the flow and while my shrimp didn't really enjoy it, I have not seen another hydra since and it's been about 4-5 months. I think extra flow really helps. I had tried manual removal, feeding less, and lights out before but they always came back or never completely left. The flow thing seemed to have done the trick though.

Some snails can be sensitive to Fenbendazole, especially nerites and briggs. I would use with caution.

would baby mollies eat the hydra that easily?
