Just wanted to share some recent pictures of our rainbow cichlids. We bought them last summer on Aquabid and are pretty fond of them :)

Thanks for looking!

Great photos and great fish. I have a pair coming today or tomorrow from an Aquabid breeder. (Did you get yours from New England?)

Tell us a bit more about them. How big a tank? How many fish? Other inhabitants? What do you feed them? Any babies? Inquiring minds want to know!

I think I got mine from someone in MO, but I could be wrong. I'll try and see if I can find emails or something to jog my memory.

Mine are in a 38g tank w/ two internal Whisper 40i filters that have supercartridges inside (made out of that bioball material -- great for lots of room for good bacteria to live). One cartridge gets a carbon impregnated waste trap and the other, I just slip in one of those 100ml Purigen bags (which last up to 6mos). They've got an airstone disk hooked to a 40g pump, malasian (sp?) drift wood, and plastick plants. Tank mates are some platys, corys, serpae tetras and a bn pleco :)

I feed them a variety of things including Kens Tropical fish flakes, Hikari Bio-Gold Cichlid Pellets, and Tetra Cichlid Crisps (not high end but all my fish seem to love those). Sometimes blood worms. That's about it!

PS this tank has the internal filters because it has to be flush against the wall. They're working out great, but wouldn't be my first choice if not for the need for this tank to be flush to the wall.

Are they as peaceful as so many say? I am really considering either one or a pair of these as a centerpiece for my 75.

I've had no problems keeping them with platys, corys, and serpae tetras. I might not keep them with something very small (like neons) or with "tempting" flowing fins, like a betta. If possible, it would probably be best to have 4+, vs. 1 or 2. I've got four and everyone seems fine (they sometimes chase each other but it's short lived and not vicious). Seem to pay little to no attention to the other types of fish.
