Hello all,
I bought a couple of firemouths a couple months ago. One male, one female. Both seem very healthy and have approximately doubled in size from roughly 1 1/2" to 3" now, with the male having grown a little more than the female.
My question is regarding the male's color. He has normal coloration for the most part, but his gill flaps(the extra folds that they flare out) are black instead of red. When not displaying he looks just like a normal firemouth with a thin black edge around his gills. His throat and cheeks are the normal red. I've searched all over the net and cannot find a pic of another fish like it.
Anyways it doesn't seem to be affecting his health so I'm not too concerned. Just curious if anyone can tell me if I have some kind of genetic freak or if it is a relatively common color morph.
Thanks!
p.s. Sorry for the lack of pics I don't have a decent digital cam for that and my phone takes crappy pictures.
