What do they prefer to eat and what do cories like to eat??

I think neons prefer flakes because they are usually softer and easier for them to swallow. cories will eat just about anything that is on the bottom of the tank (fishfood wise) so anything that sinks fast before the other fish can get it they will eat.

Hikari Micromini makes a good staple food for neons since it is small nough to fit in their mouths without them having to spit it out mutiple times and make a mess. It's a little more nutritious than a few of the flake foods out there too. Corys like their sinking wafers aong with shrimp pellets and just about any frozen food (which the neons will also scarf down).

I feed mine TetraMin tropical granules and they seem to like it. I keep my other fish busy at the top with flakes and use granules for the neons since they sink down to them.

My neons ate both Flake food and frozen brine shrimp.

Just about anything. Mine like frozen and freeze dried bloodworms, finely chopped frozen krill, flake foods, etc.

Cories like sinking algae wafers, sinking shrimp pellets, bloodworms, and things of that nature. They do need to be fed specifically as they should not be treated as scavangers.

Good tip but what about crumbling flakes into smaller pieces for the neons as they sink quicker and bigger fish will go for the bigger floating flakes?

I know that it a popular option, but still find it messier than simply feeding them smaller food in the first place because you still get a lot of "dust" from crumbling the flakes up.

Tetra Color Bits are slow sinking. Crushed up Color Bits work great for tetras as they seem take sinking food better than off the top of the water..

Mine really like the hikari micromini and they also go after small flakes floating down. the most active I've ever seen them was when I attempted to raise brine shrimp and added a scoopful of freshly hatched brine shrimp with a net into the tank. All my tetras and smaller fish went nuts trying to catch them all. I'm going to try and be more successful with brine shrimp raising later and see if I can't get them larger so the mollies and platy's can see them. Kyle
