Help Please!

Hi

Can anyone help me please? I am a complete novice of the fish world! I am interested in getting silver sharks and went to be local pet shop to ask his advice - told me to set the tank up with heater and filter and drop some food in to get the bacteria going and leave it like that for a couple of days before even considering getting the fish. However, thursday - saturday the water looked great but came down this morning and the water was cloudy?? What have I done wrong? How can I rectify it? And when can I safely introduce the fish?
