It is some kind of Macrobrachium species. They will attack and kill fish, so don't let him near any fish! Very cool find, but really need a species tank, due to aggression.

By "buttkicker" do you mean Tilapia cichlid (Tilapia buttikoferi)? Because, depending on the size of that fish, you are either going to end up with a shrimpless tank or a fishless tank.

lol yes i mean tilapia and i think he is pretty big at leased 9 inch i will post.. and i would be worried about the shrimp because he is agressive and may get caught but he is very quick and aware.. how big could that shrimp get??

In Taiwan you go shrimp fishing for those. I took 2 home once. I put them in a 540L tank with 3 oscars, jag (all over 8") and some other fish and within three days, the fish were ripped to shreds. Those pincers are long, hard and strong. I would really watch him with the fish. Males pincers turn blue when they mature.

yes im trying to keep the best eye on them.. but the shrimp does seem to be interested.. but will that buttkicker basically eats until he dies?? and his about 2 years old and his got some white and black on his claws..

Why would you even risk it? I know you said that you are keeping a close eye on them but can you REALLY be watching 24/7??

The future looks bleak for one of these guys! If I were you I would be taking these good peoples advice and separate them asap.

ButtKicker

yea i know i am starting to consider it because that shrimp is none stop on him and im not worried about the fish ... there is also some other fish in there to.. and can anyone touch on how rare he is just curious thanks.

I couldnt have said it better myself. These people (who know what they are doing btw) are giving you the advice you asked for and I dont understand why you would want to risk your fish or your shrimp?? Even if neither one die, that is a beautiful fish, do you really want it mutilated by shrimp claws, or stressed by having a predator in the tank with it? I dont know anything about that shrimp, but it seems to me the logical thing to do with it would be to follow the advice of all these experts and separate them until you find out all you need to know about the shrimp and decide where/what to put it in. Good luck. - Ash

thanks will look into it.. but by the looks of it i don't know if they will last another night everything seemed well until now shrimp is just always all over him.. but im worried one bite and its over.. but i had shrimp with 2 rather large pocassimus and he was always going after him until he noticed he wasn't going to be able to eat him.. so i was just hoping it would be the same here but im not to sure whats going to happen and everyone is right its not worth risking these guys.

Yes, he will eat till he dies. I would just feed him every other day.

Macrobrachium rosenbergii are what we fish in Taiwan I think
http://www.shrimpcrabsandcrayfish.co.uk/Site/Shrimp.htm?species/Longarm.htm~mainFrame

Could be Macrobrachium Australiense

Macrobrachium rosenbergii. I don't think M. australiense or any of of the other Australian endemics have ever entered the U.S. trade.
