View Full Version : Unidentified objects in tank
I have about 50 or so, small pebble sized jelly looking things all over the glass. I only had an albino catfish in the tank. I have never seen a snail in the tank so I do not believe that is the source. Any ideas?
i never had snails, but i had snail eggs everywhere, some snails are nocturnal i found out, could be something like a hydra, in that case get some gouramis

Are they stuck to the glass? That is, if you try to rub them off do they need a little scrub?
they are attached but come off very easily.

A photo would be a good idea if you can get one. Or even a little more detail ... like size, distribution, position in tank.
If they have tentacles it might be hydra, otherwise it could be a fungus or even snail eggs. Hard to tell.
not sure how to post pics yet. There are around 50. Only fish I had in there was a catfish. Never seen a snail in the tank. So my guess was that it was not snail eggs. (Too many for not seeing any snails) they are about the size of a small ladybug. They are scattered around the whole tank.
What is hydra?

There are many topics on hydra within the forum. Run a search on it by using the "search" button.
If they are as big as you are saying, then they are prob. not hydra
IMHO, they are probably eggs from somewhere. If it was a snail, you'll find out soon enough.
If you can take a picture, post it using the "attach file" sectionof the post. It's the easiest way.

Hard to tell from the picture, but they look like snail eggs to me. Can you see any samller circles withint this larger blob, Those would be individual eggs.
no smaller circles or spots. I have had snail eggs before and these are different. they look like the have dozens of small tenticles like an anenomy.

Hydra fits that bill perfectly.

Sound like they might be hydra.
Do they look at all like this?

all this talk about things swimming around in my tank got me wondering... am i putting myself at risk by working on my tank and walking away without washing them?
does not look like that pic. I posted an attachment earlier. sorry about the quality. If hydra, how do I get rid of them?

Always wash your hands after working in a tank. Chances are the organisms in your tank will not harm you, but I wouldn't take the chance.
Remember that wherever there is life (especially in water), there are microscopic organisms bacteria, protists, fungi, virus. If they can they will infect you.
someone i know touched a dead clam, then his eye, and had a NASTY eye infection
