using only one side of the gills

my piranha is only using one side of his gills i just noticed it to day. I'm currently treating my tank with poly-guard .

will Prazi Pro fix the gill problem?

my tank size is 240g planted piranha tank with 22 rpbs 2 fx5 filters and one more 600gph filter.

all the water parameters are fine nitrate might be a Lil high at 40+

i used to feed them live food but no more. they are flashing alot . any advice would be nice
 
Alternating gill from one side to another may be normal. Does yours alternates?

did it start right after treatment?
 
well i never noticed it till now. i just thought it was un normal for him. they are flashing bad rubbing on everything. i just want to fix the flashing and gill problem. i have some metro on hand too but i cant treat them at the same time.

what would you advise ?
 
Although Metro can pause a problem to siver $ and their cousins, I never have experienced problem when liquified metro is dosed a bit at a time rather than full dose in one shot. And believe it or not, depending on water condition the fish are exposed to, fish will react differently to metro/other drugs.

Since I am not sure what Poly Guard is, I cant suggest any at this moment. Maybe if you can post the ingredients of Polyguard, maybe I can come up with suggestions.

polyguard is made up of Active ingredients: sulfathiazole (75%), malachite green (4%), nitrofurantoin (0.25%), 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde secmicarbazole (0.25%), Quinacrine dihydrochloride (0.5%). Inactive ingredients: magnesium carbonate (20%).

ive noticed that right by there gills there scales look a little rough.
 
I see the product info. I believe pretty similar to Aquatronics Paragon which I did not have much success with.

I would not mix with Poly and metro since we dont know of any possible interaction.. If decided to add metro, remove Poly from water with small pwc and fresh carbon before adding metro.
