75 gallon Discus tank

Hello. Thinking about doing a 75gal corner flo tank for discus with plenty of plants. None of the fish stores around here have any discus so it looks like I might have to order online which I have never done and am a little skeptical after seeing the prices and reading of bad experiences. I am looking to hopefully save some money on everything because the setup is going to cost much more then I thought so I am probably going to try ordering many of the supplies if I can get them for less then the local pet shops are charging. Any recommendations on where and what to get as far as filtration, pumps, heaters, plants, for the best prices. I am leaning toward the Marineland Model 2 wet/dry sump filtration, saw a vendor Anubias Design on here with a good price on that filter but not sure if it is still going on or they will ship.

Any suggestions on where to order Discus from, I am not looking for show quality discus and don't want to pay a lot of money for them. I just want healthy nice looking ones and will buy juveniles to save money.

I have had other tank setups but this will be my first setup for mainly Discus.

Any tips or recemmondations would be appreciated, thanks.

simply discus is a good source to get started.

In a nutshell tho .
young discus(juveniles aka juvies) will require more labor from you.
they need to be fed several (4-6 times) daily . this usuallly means lots of water changes(daily of at least 3-5 weekly changes).
generally recommended to have a bare bottom tank.. easier to see the mess and easier to keep clean. also tank water will range from 82-88 f. I keep the temp for juvies i raise at 84-86.

this is not the same for adults.. the water can be slightly cooler (82-84) they don't require several feedings tho I feed my adult discus 2-3 X daily. I try to do 2 water changes on adult tanks or a single large water change weekly

First of all, have you ever done a planted tank before? If you are new to plantedn tank and discus, you may have a tough battle ahead because you are trying to learn 2 different things at once.

Where are you located? Look for someone on simplydiscus that is in your area.

I also suggest sponsors on simplydiscus.com. Try to find a sponsor/breeder as close to your home as possible. Discus are an overnight shipment and when going very long distances....shipping cost is a killer!

Agreed on the shipping, is outrageous. I only buy fish locally had bad luck with couple of fish from a breeder out of San Francisco. Though Rocky Mountain Discus fish is a great breeder, still the shipping cost and waiting around when they come in have to be there for live fish when delivered.
