Ok you could thank Viciousfish for this thread. Apparently he want to see my loisellei's and seeing how I got a thread on my new Oscar and a thread on my breeding pair of Jack Dempseys I figured to make this thread for the Oscar, JD's and Loisellei's. I will also include pics of my pleco's here.

Ok My tanks are....

53gal - 2 Aquaclear 110's
Parachromis loisellei pair - From Jeff Rapps
3 Silver Dollars - Use to be 5
3 Giant Danios - Use to be 8
1 L-001 Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus
1 Jack Dempsey - Female

20gal - Planted - 1 Aquaclear 70
3 L-144's - From Pinkertd
1 Baby Oscar

20gal - 1 Aquaclear 70
3 Brigg Snails
5 Giant Ram Snails
2 Jack Dempsey Breeding Pair

5gal - Quarantine - Internal Whisper 10-20
Betta
6.5" Hypostomus - Unsure what kind

Ok I know tanks are overstocked thankfully there over filtered as well. I just got my new double stand in. Ill be getting my 75gal soon which will go to my Jack Dempsey's. Next month hope to have enough for a 110gal for my loisellei's. When that happens the Oscar will go in my 53gal. After I save some more another 75gal will be purchased for the Oscar. The extra Jack Dempsey will need a new home soon.

Great pics.:thumbsup:That is still the neatest looking oscar I have ever seen! All of your fish look very heathly. Those L001's are some awesome looking plec's too. Once in a while the petsmart near me gets some of those in mixed with their gibby's. Good job.

Thanks for the kind words. The L-001 I bought obviously when it was small. I had like 7 of them. That was around the time that my Grandpa got sick and my time and care went to my job and grandpa. My fish got neglected. In the end I ended up with only 2 L-001 the tank water was brown. 1 of the 2 died and now I got my only L-001. Feel bad for the rest I lost but nothing I could do bout that now.

Yeah they are nice at this age. The female loisellei colors up alot at times. The male looks alot like a managuense but different like lighter coloraltion. I like the loisellei's more not hyper aggressive like my Jag was and not gonna get so big.

Thanks Lauren for the kind words bout my Oscar. Hope he or she keeps those colors as it gets bigger.

Update on 53gal. I now have 7 Giant Danios purchased some from my local Petsmart. They have always had good stock and clean tanks so purchased 4 of them to go with the 3 I already have.

Ok well no pic updates but an update none the less. Im down to 5 Giant Danios now also they Jack Dempsey I had with the loisellei's finally got caught and sadly didnt survive. Im planning on getting rid of several of my fish. The ones I will be keeping are my loisellei's those I wont give up my L-001 my L-144's and my Rhino pleco's oh and my L-90 for now. The rest I think im gonna part with which are my lil pardalis my lil gibbiceps my lil L-114 my unknown Hypostomus pleco and my 3 silver dollars oh and my Oscar and my Jack Dempsey pair. I got to cut back since I cant afford all there proper tanks any time soon. But yea sad but I got to down grade my fish stock.

Ok its official my Jack Dempseys are not going anywhere. I noticed a slight white dot on my male which ended up being nothing but when I looked up I was in complete shock. I got baby JD's now. Not sure when they laid the eggs or where since they were neither in nor on the pot but they had the eggs somewhere and well I got fry to prove it. Ill take pics tomorrow morning sadly my camera battery is dead.

Ok I got several updates for you but sadly no pics as of yet. I'll be taking pictures tomorrow. I got several baby JD's I'm raising away from the parents only time will tell if they survive. Started of with 11 baby JD's 3 died due to the filter I didn't cover it right then I found one dead and 1 is missing so only 6 I count. Had 4 baby L-144's but one died don't know the cause but I got 3 left which so far seem ok.

My JD's eggs hatched and I now got hundreds of fry bunched together which are being gaurded by the mom who won't even let the dad get close by.

My Loisellei male and female are actually getting along. Female is no longer in hidding there swimming side by side right now actually above the driftwood. I still got the 3 Silver Dollars and 5 Giant Danios suprisingly none have been killed like the others had.

All my pleco's are doing good. My 2 Rhino's my 1 L-001 and Gibbicep baby are all getting along no fights they try just avoiding each other. The L-001 grown ups and 1 sub adult are doing good. Sadly 1 of the adults I had passed away came home one day from work and she was dead. So I got 2 males and 2 females 1 unknown 3 babies. The Hypostomus with the loisellei's regrew its tail and the small rhino healed up nicely and so did the L-001.

Betta is still alive and kicking. Still flares up at the back of the tank. And last but most certainly not least my Oscar is doing good. He is a pig but its cool i toss food in and he darts to the top of the tub gets the food then rushes back down. Its a trip to see.

Oh and almost forgot my L-90 and L-114 pleco's are doing ok and my 3 briggs and many Red Ribbon Malaysian Trumpet Snails seem to be doing pretty good. RRMTS keep multiplying but I think the Oscar is eating the smaller ones so there numbers are growing as fast as they could plus the food is regulated.

No more planted tanks for me right now. I got my Anubias floating in the tub with the oscar along with some java fern but thats all prob going to go buy buy. Well Ill make sure to do pic updates tomorrow.

Ok quick update before bed. 1 of the baby L-144's and 2 of the JD babies have vanished. I did a water change and after adding the water the fish were missing. I checked in the tank filter and bucket I emptied the dirty water in and nothing. Also the small L-144 I had that was of unknown sex will remain unknown since it has died. Only thing I could think of that could of caused the death was that It had been over a month that I did a WC and well I did a huge WC and had to clean the filter so I think it was to much at once for the lil one. The other inhabitants look good all munching away as we speak.

My updated fish list.
2 Long Finned L-144's 1 Male 1 Female Adults
2 Short Finned L-144's 1 Male 1 Female Adults <--- From Debbi's Stock
2 Baby L-144's
1 L-001 adult
1 L-90 sub adult
1 L-114 baby
2 Rhino Pleco's sub adults
1 Gibbiceps baby
1 unknown Hypostomus adult

5 Giant Danios
3 Silver Dollars
2 Loisellei's Male and Female
2 Blue Gene Jack Dempsey's Male and Female
4 Baby JD's
100+ JD fry
1 Oscar
1 Betta
3 Brigg Snails
30+ MTS

Still in need of upgrades if I cant upgrade soon then Im gonna have to depart with a large amount of the fish I own. I think I may downgrade my betta to a smaller tank where it will live solo but that tank ill have planted and have the MTS I own. Also Debating whether or not I should keep my Loisellei's together and get a 120gal or seperate them and get 75gal for each and keep them only with tanks mates like they currently have which are the silver dollars and giant danios.

I got so many different ideas right now that Im gonna end up driving myself insane trying to choose one. Wish I knew someone who welded out here just encase I go with 120gal tanks that way I could have a double stand made. Oh well off to bed. Night night.

You should be able to build a double 120 gallon stand out of 2x4s. It is a lot of weight, but it would basically be the same as racking 2 pairs of 55s next to each other. I am sure you can get a ton of great advice in the DIY section.

Im gonna try to take some pics in a lil bit of some of my fish. The JD's and the L-144's are hidden. Gonna fill up my other 5gal though so I could take side shots of my oscar and the other pleco's housed with him. Just give me a lil time. Was busy yesterday so couldnt take pics. Didnt get home till bout 9pm and well was up since 8pm from the day before so was a tad bit tired being up for 25hours.

The type of double stand im refering to is where you could have two tanks in one spot. Like one on top and another on the bottom. Not side by side. I got all my aquariums in my room so double stands let me have twice as many tanks then the normal stands.

Like this.

What I meant is that a 120 is basically the same weight as putting 2 55s next to each other. So while it seems like a lot of weight for a wood stand, it would actually be fine.

Thank you. Im aiming to get a new 75gal tank with my next pay check. See how that goes. I shouldnt get no suprise bills anymore since my car is no more and I just recently paid for my dogs registration renewal. My loisellei's will get the 75gal and the Jack Dempseys will go into the 53gal. Then like a month later Ill get a second 75gal which ill put my Oscar in with his pleco buddies. Then prob in december Ill get the 120gal for my loisellei's and the JD's would go in the 75gal.

2 updates
Im down to 2 JD babies I found out that they still managed to get sucked into the filter some how so no more filter im just gonna do water changes. Also down to 2 brigg snails. My blue one died the other two remaining active. Oh and got a few more MTS I see more babies now.

Update on the 4 isolated babies.

So so glad Ive had no loses since removing the filter. Ive been doing daily WC's and well sometimes every other day. The 2 JD's are looking pretty good they normally swim side by side. The L-144's babies tend to stay apart one like chilling on the bottom of the tank on the driftwood the other loves staying on a Lily Lotus Bulb which is floating ontop of the tank.

Ill have to try and tank pictures of them when I go home.

All the fry are doing good Ive only seen one dead on the filter the rest are swimming around in the same corner as there mama. Daddy is still being kept away from the female due to there fighting. Both male and female have beat up lips. Badly messed up lips.

All other fish are doing good. Oscar just for those who had fallen in love with its former color pattern will prob love how it looks now. Pattern has changed alot but for the better. Love his color. Not sure if its just his natural look or if the sun the tub gets in the morning through the window has enhanced his color. The tub get direct sunlight for about 2 or 3 hours a day. Pleco's love to rest in the light which I find cool but odd since they should be nocturnal.

Ok I was asked several years back on this forum or another forum what was my big interest in the Glyptoperichthys family of the pleco world. Now known as Pterygoplichthys they are still my favorite family of the loricariidae. One I always wanted was Pterygoplichthys scrophus but have always been hard to find. I think since there not colorful like some other pleco's there not desired and for that reason are not farmed and not really imported.

Luckily I was able to obtain 2 of them which were wild caught. There are two pics that I saw that made me absolutely love and want a Rhino Pleco. They are here at this site http://www.fishbase.de/photos/thumbnailssummary.php?ID=53568. Most would not care to own one. They cant be bred in the home aquaria but I dont care there nice to watch.

This family has several other pleco's I like. My favorite being the gibbiceps and then joselimaianus followed by scrophus then pardalis. There are others I like but are way harder to obtain. The size (I dont mean length but girth) of them and the broad heads but gentle nature (except to there own kind) has drawn me to them. They just appeal to me.

I remember my mom use to feel sorry for "algea eaters" as there refered to out here. She always felt bad though cuz these pleco's were always kept with mean cichlids and had fins torn and missing in some cases. I think thats were my interest in them was sparked. That was about 20yrs ago.

I have since then done lots of reading on this family and now find it rather easy to identify any member of this family were it seems others still struggle a bit. I know they arent colorful and require big tanks but this has been and propably always will be my favorite family of the loricariidae's.

Just a lil peak inside my mind and how I feel bout pleco's.

Well sadly I had another loss but not the baby JD's or Baby L-144's but my adult long finned L-144 male. I believe the cause was aggression. Ive noticed the short finned chasing him from time to time but nothing major. He was nice and healthy 2days ago just had a torn tail. Now I find him dead. He was by no means under weight. So now I got 1 male and 2 females. I yi yi. These pleco's are proving more difficult then I imagined they would be.

Jack dempsey adults are still in the healing process. Female looks pretty messed up even after how much she has healed already. I believe its stressed her alot cuz the fry are disapearing fast and no dead bodies are to be found. I only got a few left maybe like 10 which Im thinking of fishing out and putting with there bigger siblings.

As for the 2 baby JD's one is growing faster then the other now. Im wondering why but there is no way for me to find out.

"Common Pleco's" are normally either P. gibbiceps or P. pardalis for the most part. Hypostomus plecostomus is not as common as before and doesnt get to giant sizes they max at about a foot.

Managua's get bigger and sport a different color and spotting pattern's loisellei's closely related to managua's hence the same body shape but remain smaller and are less aggressive and in this species to me anyways the female is the nicer looking of the 2 but do love my male he is very powerful.

Ok so instead of having multiple posts of my different fish I decided to take my time and make one long post with all the pictures here.

This is Pterygoplichthys weberi. On PlanetCatfish.com there said to get about 8”. If you look on there list under registered cat owner only 8 people have registered compared to P. gibbiceps who has 188 and P. pardalis having 197 registered owners. If you look for these on the internet you’ll notice there is little information on them and few pictures of them. That’s why I jumped on the opportunity to acquire one. I wanted two but they only had one left and only reason was because someone had went and picked them all up but one was hiding somewhere and well now that single pleco is mine. So here are two pictures of it. I got P. weberi on Thursday 9-23-2010 and is roughly 2”.

Picture of it’s slightly sunken in belly. This will be fixed in due time.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/GDogg21/Pterygoplichthys%20weberi/005.jpg

Next is P. gibbiceps albino. Unlike the albino chocolate pleco aka P. pardalis the albino for of P. gibbiceps still shows spots on its fins. These can obtain a large size of 18” and can become territorial with there own species and other species that look similar to it. I got this albino and a normal P. gibbiceps. Both are roughly the same size. I got this albino on Wednesday 9-22-2010 and is about 3-4”.

Only a belly shot for now. Fin is broken I’m sure it will grow back with some time.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/GDogg21/Pterygoplichthys%20gibbiceps/008.jpg

Now this fish I already own. Why do I want two??? Because I can and because I feel if I had provided a bigger tank my P. joselimaianus would be bigger then it is now. No my big P. joselimaianus isn’t a stunted form only on the small end of its growth range with is 7-9” but from what I’ve been told in rare cases it can get as big as P. gibbiceps. Only one picture of this guy also. Got this guy from the same place I got my albino P. gibbiceps from. Came in the same day as the albino P. gibbiceps as well 9-22-2010. Unlike the other two this one has no fin damage and has a nice plump belly.

Side shot of my P. joselimaianus
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/GDogg21/Pterygoplichthys%20joselimaianus/007-1.jpg

This pleco I’ve posted before on here. Just recently actually. There my baby L-144’s. These are of just one of them. I can only tell them apart because one never ever leaves the driftwood the other is rarely on the driftwood as you will see in my next three pictures. I believe there both going to end up being long finned L-144’s.

Baby in between the slot on the bubble stone.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/GDogg21/Ancistrus%20sp%20L144/023.jpg

Now for my unknown pleco. This is not a Ptergoplichthys like my other pleco’s but rather Hypostomus. I have no idea which species it is but the best match I see so far is Hypostomus plecostomus. Although the person who sold this to me told me it belonged to his dad and that it had a L number and well H. plecostomus has no L number. So for now I just have it labeled under Hypostomus sp. Either way I was laying on my bed when I saw a photo opportunity and I went for it. This is what I got.

So so pretty. LOL
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/GDogg21/Hypostomus%20sp/018.jpg

Last but certainly not least are not another one of my pleco’s but my prized Parachromis loisellei pair. These two have never bred but they seem to get along from time to time lol. Male is a real jerk at times. But yeah here are 4 pictures of the duo.

Female close up and personal.

Just becareful which kind you get and make sure if you do get some to always supply them with driftwood regardless of there primary diet in the wild. Driftwood is said to help with digestion.

man, your thread has been dead for a while now. i think that means you need some new pictures!

what are your baby plecos eating now? i've gotten mine to start eating medium NLS sinking pellets so they are putting on some size. also getting zucchini a couple nights a week but i'm limiting thatbecause i want them to eat plenty of protein and get used to eating the pellets so i can get them into the 150g soon.

Jbar mine are eating zuchini hikari wafers and driftwood. I see them messing with the driftwood more then anything else. I checked my ummm P. weberi to see how its been cuz when I got it the belly was slightly sunken in and well now he looks a lil plump. They are all gaining weight from the driftwood. I need to buy some NLS heard alot of good things bout it but never tried it myself.

Im using the old filters from the 53 on this tank which is 2 Aquaclear 110's.

I hope the loisellei's get along if not then Ill end up seperating them into there own 75 gallon tanks. Male is chasing the female but Im gonna add more driftwood just got to get the one I have sitting outside prepared for this tank.

The Jack Dempseys I may end up getting rid of or selling. The Blue Gene Jack Dempseys but Im still thinking bout parting with them and dealing with my loisellei's and single oscar.

how big are your gibbys now? its crazy how easily fish can regenerate like that. love the p. scrophus also.

make sure you get your oscar a nice variety of foods if you are going to continue with the hikari pellets. try him with frozen peas, night crawlers, krill, etc... if you want to avoid the hassle and still make sure they get all the nutrition they need so as to avoid HITH you can just feed NLS pellets which have pretty much everything they need to stay healthy and colorful.

my 4" plecos are eating the medium sized sinking NLS pellets. my oscar eats the XL sized pellets but as soon as this jar is out i may try the mega formula. for your oscar you should probably go with the jumbo size which are floating pellets and i think about the same size as medium hikari pellets. all of the NLS sizes are the same formula of ingredients, some are floating and some are sinking so just visit the NLS website (http://nlsfishfood.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=60) to figure out which one you want to go with. i honestly don't think you can beat their food, and it may be a little more money up front but it pays off in the long run because you don't have to feed them as much. i have a 375g jar of the XL and it has lasted me almost an entire year and my oscar eats about 8-10 per day. also, petco is now carrying a lot of the different NLS formulas so i dont' have to pay shipping from petsolutions or bigalsonline anymore.

my 4" plecos are eating the medium sized sinking NLS pellets. my oscar eats the XL sized pellets but as soon as this jar is out i may try the mega formula. for your oscar you should probably go with the jumbo size which are floating pellets and i think about the same size as medium hikari pellets. all of the NLS sizes are the same formula of ingredients, some are floating and some are sinking so just visit the NLS website (http://nlsfishfood.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=60) to figure out which one you want to go with. i honestly don't think you can beat their food, and it may be a little more money up front but it pays off in the long run because you don't have to feed them as much. i have a 375g jar of the XL and it has lasted me almost an entire year and my oscar eats about 8-10 per day. also, petco is now carrying a lot of the different NLS formulas so i dont' have to pay shipping from petsolutions or bigalsonline anymore.

ill have to go check it out at petco then.

Thanks Jimmy lol. My Oscar is getting bigger and colors are not changing much so happy bout that.

Ok well I made the biggest mistake and my fish have paid the price for it. Ok so in my 20gal I had

2 Calico BN babies
2 Albino BN babies
2 L-144 LF BN babies
1 L-114
1 L-90
1 L-144 adult female
1 Ptergoplichthys weberi

That was my pleco list. Now my pleco list is.

1 L-144 adult female
1 Pterygoplichthys weberi

Ok I also had 6 Black Bar Endlers now I got 5 and they dont look so good.

Well I had purchased some fish bout 3 weeks ago and well I put the baby Parachromis sp. La Ceiba's in the tank. Can you say quaratine??? Well I didn't go through the quaratine process I treated the tank and the Parachromis babies cleared off so all is good right? Wrong well they had Ick and despite the Para's being clear the reast of the pleco's caught it and I didn't notice till it was to late. Only 2 surviving pleco's.

What really sucks is that I have a 53gal with my Oscar a small Red Tiger Motaguense and 3 pleco's. Well my biggest pleco which I got from Snookn21 for a good deal but sadly it some how got out and dried up while I was away at work. Not cool so my pleco collection has be slashed by more then half. Lost my Ptergoplichthys gibbiceps to Ick as well and several sunfish babies.

My entire pleco and cichlid stock list is.

20g Under Quaratine
L-144 adult female
Pterygoplichthys weberi baby
5 Parachromis La Ceiba

20G
5 Parachromis freddy's
2 Sub Adult Rhino Pleco's
1 Small L-001

53 gal
Oscar
Small RTM
Adult 8.5" L-001
Adult Hypostomus sp. 7"

135gal
2 Parachromis loisellei's
2 Jack Dempseys
2 Giant Danios

10g Under Quaratine
2 baby silver dollars
6 baby RTM
1 Albino Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps

Mom's tanks
135g
3 baby Tilapia buttikoferi's
1 Tattooed Molly (got it before I could tell her not to)
2 Adult Silver Dollars (Mine)
1 Adult L-001 11.5" part of tail is missing or it would be bigger

5g
2 baby Missouri Longear Sunfish.

jbradt thanks. Its a major loss but now at least I got a 10gal hospital/quaratine tank to use. Its in use for my baby RTM's and baby Silver Dollars.

Jbar yes its another adult L-001 I bought for my mom's 135gal aquarium. I think that pleco may become mine in the future though when those buttikoferi's she has it housed with get bigger. It's tail is short like it was picked off by another fish. Besides that its a looker.

I was looking at my P. weberi and the tail is healing a bit tweaked but healing none the less. Looking to go ahead with getting a stock tank and placing them outside. With spring around the corner for us californian's they should do fine outside.

Stuff happens could of been prevented but oh well.

I got new fish. I got a Red Tuxedo Platty had bought a Blue Texedo as well but it got caught on the filter I shook him loose but he wasn't swimming so good so I gave it to my Oscar. I got 3 new pleco's 1 is a chocolate pleco (albino P. pardalis) the next is a Reg P. pardalis the third is a unknown species of Hypostomus to me. Looks cool and there all small like 4" or smaller.

All the Ick tanks finally look clear. I haven't seen a single speck of ick on and of the fish for the past 3-4 days. So hoping it stays that way.

Im gonna take apart my Xeri garden the gophers tore it up and even though my plants are in pots it looks horrible with holes and mounds all over so Im gonna put cement and half will be like a nursery for my plants the other half I want to make into nursery for my pleco's. I want to make a pond or two above ground. All my future giants and semi giants would be going in there like all the Pterygoplichthys I own and the babby Hypostomus I just got.

I'm also gonna get some new 40b aquariums and put my pleco's in there come the winter months. Also want to get some 75's.

I noticed that Petco is having there sale again the 1 Gallon for $1 sale on there aquariums. Well I went to Petco to buy 2 and well they were sold out. So I went to another fish store a mom n pops store. Well they have 40b tanks as well and I asked how much they were with the glass top and the light. His response was 68.99. So turns out my local Mom n Pop store sells there tanks for cheaper then petco when there on Dollar day tank sales.

I've finally decided I'm gonna buy a canister filter for my 135 gallon aquarium. I was looking at the Marineland c-530 on Foster and Smith but there like $340 for the one I would need thats before taxes and shipping. Well I found one for about $220 thats after taxes and shipping and its still new in box. How there selling it for so cheap I don't know but I'm getting it. The humming noise from the aquaclears isn't bad when its only 1 or 2 running in your room but I got 6 running and well not so pleasant anymore.

Sweet all my fish are still looking good. Only fish that are in question are my endlers but there isolated in a spare 5gal. Also I was searching and searching online for a place that sold those Rubbermaid Stock Tanks for cheap and found a place that sells them for $199 for the 300 gallon so now I know where my pleco's are going in the spring time.

Only pleco that wont be going in there will be my female L-144. The rest will go outside even my adult L-001 hopefully itll benifit from being in a way bigger home.

All I need to figure out is the filteration for them and thats it. Im thinking of getting 2 of the stock tanks since I got several big pleco's which im kinda hoping will be able to get full size in there.

Current Pleco List.

Hypostomus
1 Unknown Hypostomus sp. Already full grown I believe.
1 Baby Hypostomus sp. Looks different then the adult.

Pterygoplichthys
1 Adult L-001 at 8.5" I believe. Hoping it will get bigger.
1 Baby L-001 at bout 4". Hope it gets at least 12" unlike my other one.
1 Weberi baby. True adult size isn't truly known but its at least 9" Hope 12" though
2 Sub Adult Rhino's. Both 5.5" Another pleco with 12" potential
1 Baby Chocolate Pleco (Albino Pardalis) Rarely seen here hope it has a growth spurt.
1 Pardalis baby very Very VERY common but had to get one. 12-18" Potential
1 Albino gibbiceps my future Albino bulldozer with an 18"+ potential

So 10 Maybe 9 I may leave the adult Hypostomus sp. in the 135 gallon which is where its at right now. I do still want to get another Gibbiceps since I lost my regular colored one to the Ick outbreak I had here. Also trying to track down a baby Snow King pleco. Only place they seem to have them is in the native waters of Texas and I aint taking a trip to Texas to try and catch one lol.
