View Full Version : Help. Kissing Gourami with multiple problems.
So I purchased a used tank today that had a Kissing Gourami with it. After thoroughly cleaning the tank (and it's still FULL of gunk), I've noticed that the fish may have some ailments. He seems to have multiple spots of white fuzz on his body. This might be some of the gunk from the tank because occasionally some of the fuzz comes off. He also might have some fin rot, as his fins aren't all quite covered and look boney. I know for a fact that one of his eyes is clouded over.
What medicines would you subscribe, and what diseases am I possibly dealing with.

I am by no means an expert on fish disease, so I don't know that I can provide you much help. There are a lot of people on this forum that can, but you should try to post a picture if you can. It's pretty hard to diagnose anything without seeing it. Good luck and I hope you can get some answers. - Ash

I can't take a picture of it because my camera isn't working.

w/o pics, it's hard to give a good diagnosis...especially when meds are involved. Putting your fish through medication that is incorrect can be costly.
Based on description the "white fuzz" sounds bacterial...possibly columnaris? I would start finding pics online to see if that is a match.
Fin rot and cloudy eyes should heal up with lots of clean water.
It looks like columnaris, but isn't the disease fast acting? Meaning if it was columnaris he would be dead by now?

Not sure, but since this is (I'm assuming) the same kisser from the used tank it could be a relatively recent development.

try maracyn plus or maracyn II
Maracyn plus is a gram +/- antibacterial that is pretty effective in treating columnaris, if that is what you have. You will have to remove any carbon from your filters, and keep the water clean.
Are there any lesions on the fish?
what were the parameters the fish was kept in?
Thought I'd tell everyone that the fish is now in good hands. Went to one of the oldest LFS around here. They took him in and gave me a seven dollar store credit. Now I know he's in good hands.

Good to know and kudos for rescuing the fish!
