I just noticed that one of my severums is developing pop eye. I do 50% water changes weekly and I vacuum the gravel at the same time in the 150 gallon tank. What is the most effective treatment for this condition?
I use well water with no additives added, tank has been running for 6 years.

Pic Possible? Just pop eye on one or both? Any haziness/cloudiness on the affected eye(s)?
Any other visible symptoms? Still eating as normally?
With an assumption tap water pH is alkaline, what is or was normal pH of tank water?
How about NH3/NO2? And tank mates?

only effected one eye, severum still eating normally, water is on the soft side, pH around 7 had to use crushed coral to raise the pH, All the other tank mates are fine, parrots, severums, pleco, striped raphael

If pH was 7.0 and inserted/added crushed coral, It should have raised both hardness and pH. Did it not?
Did/does pH went down on its own with time or should I say between water changes?
If it did not I think pH of 7.0 was perfect as is. No changes were/are needed.
If pH drops b/n water changes, you could/should add bagged CC in the filter and remove when pH 7.0/desired GH/KH is reached.
I dont exactly know the total quantity and sizes of fish, but 150 G is decent volume of water.
My tap is 7.0 and the way I stocked and fed cichlids in 150G, I had to prepare/modify new tap water in hardness/pH so it will adjust pH/GH/KH of the tank water after water changes. Bear in mind, this would be done in a way so that it would be gradual changes in water chemistry.
Was CC addition done for first time? if not, how often?
Did pop eye occur right after CC addition?
What is pH of tank now & pH of tap? I usually dont ask about NH3/NO2 since we very seldomly encounter problems with NH3/NO2 among my local fellow hobbyists once tank is well matured (cycled).
If you have not test them, check it anyway.
I would not add CC for type of fish you keep if pH remains at 7.0. I would say again that this is Ideal Condition as is for your fish....

I added crushed coral several years ago to raise the pH from around 5 to the present level of 7 this is where it has been ever since.
I have 3 severums, 3 parrot fish, pleco about 12" and a striped raphael about 6" The parrots and severums are are all about 6"

I wonder what would happen with pH between routine water changes if you completely removed CC?
