Some questions before I set up my tank!

I recently purchased a 20 gallon starter kit from the local pet shop, included is an undergravel filter, and air pump etc. The underground filter has 2 pipes at each corner. I also picked up an "aqua-clear mini power filter". I got one because I heard they were better then a typical undergravel filter.

The mini filter is rated at 20 gallon tank max, now I'm wondering should I use BOTH the undergravel filter and the aqua clear mini?

Or should I be using just the AC mini? I'm planning on only having maybe 10 fish to start (prolly tetras) maybe more in the future, is more fish going to require me to run both filters?

I've read some some different forums and some people think undergravel filters are low tech, and old? Should I return the mini and move up to the Aqua Clear 150?

Any help appreciated

For a 20 gallon, that's what I would do. Skip the undergravel, and switch to an AC150. I use a mini on my 5 and 10 gallons.

edit.... And I always forget my manners. Welcome to Aquaria Central!

I agree with kveeti on both counts...

Welcome!

And go with the 150.

Yeah, I would do the same. Skip the UGF. But save it in case you want to setup a quarentine tank.

Be careful not to overstock the 20 gallon. 10 tetras and a few bottom dwelling fish are about the max you want to put into a tank that size. Maybe 5 dwarf cories or khulie loaches.
