i put a uv sterilizer in last night to try and get rid of the green water until my plants grow enough to take care of it them self. (i have had green water for about three weeks after adding 40-50 small plants and ferts i tried putting a blanket over the tank for three days and it did nothing looked exactly the same) and it has been 12 hours and there is no change at all and i was just wondering if there should be at least a little change in the water clarity or is there something wrong i have a 55 gal. and i put in a 9 volt uv sterilizer that is good to 150 gallons. i have read that it should have done something overnight but this is my first experience with one thanks Greg

How fast is the water going through your sterilizer. If you push the water through to fast the UV does not have the time to kill the alge you should have notice some change if everything was set right.
What type of UV is it?
And is the water flowing through it? I have see some that the tubing is wound so tight around the bulb that you could not even blow through it:)

this morning i looked at the output after i posted this thread and there wasn't much coming out at all. so i started to shake it and air bubbles started coming out. and then it started to flow through real good. so i came home after work and i can actually see about 2 inches into the tank. so i guess it is doing something now. i just hope all the plants i put in are going to look pretty good once i can start seeing them again. i can see all the fish every once in a while and there still alive. so we will see thanks Greg
