I'm looking to restock my 60 gallon hex tank, and want to base my stocking around smaller cichlids. I have owned Kenyi's before and loved them, but realize they won't work in this type of configuration. I am thinking of going with a sand substrate versus gravel as well.

Besides the center piece, I do want some dither fish for the higher level of the tank (tetra's, perhaps).

I am leaning towards going with angels, blue rams, or Bolivian Rams, any thoughts on which of those will work best in this type of tank?

The only other thought I had was Electric Yellow africans, not sure if they would work or not, but seemed like it might be possible.

Thanks in advance! This is a great site!

I think Angels would probably work best for a tall tank like that. You probably could have 4 or 5 in the tank. They would do well with Tetras that are not bite-size.

If you really want african cichlids, some of the Tanganikans(sp?) might work around a large rock pile. I would look for someone more experienced to weight in before going that route.
