hi, I've had my green terror for about 4 months and just added a gold severum & a green severum to the tank last week. Lights on this morning I noticed a tan looking substance on top of a container cover inside the tank. My first thought was that I was overfeeding but a closer inspection revealed eggs. I didn't know the sexes until this morning now that I see the green terror constantly hovering over the container. She charges at me if I get too close to the side of the tank (like I'm going to touch her eggs.....not)
I'm assuming the parents are the green terror being the mom and the gold severum the dad IF they eggs were fertilized. The green severum is half the size of the gold and it hides most of the time. Also in the tank is a large pleco, about 8" long. It's a 46 gallon bow tank, temporary home.
Has this ever happened to anyone of you?

the GT may have laid the eggs by herself.

that's what I was originally thinking but she does allow the GS to go by them. I would have thought that if she laid them herself without help from the GS, she would not let him anywhere near her. I guess I'll know more in the next few days. Now I know that I've been calling her the right name - Lucy.
& who knows my GS could also be a female - it's name is Sunny. Thanks! :)

ok so today there aren't as many eggs as yesterday but still plenty there. Half of them are the same color as the above picture and the other half have turned lighter in color.....anyone know what this means? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
This is my GT's 1st batch of eggs.

I could be wrong of course here, but I doubt they made the babies together. Sounds kinda odd to me. I know many fish will cross breed...but I don't think a sev and GT would, they are way to different in looks IMO. Most the time fish the cross at least are similar to each other.

I remember with my cons the white eggs were unfertilized and would soon be eaten by the parents so the fungus from them rotting wouldn't get to the rest of the eggs. This sound like a very unlikley cross, but I guess we will find out.
What is the "container" in the tank for?

the container is used for salt when I do water changes. I lose patience waiting for it to dissolve so I use a container then it slowly dissolves in the tank. I usually use a very small tupperware salt shaker but I have them in other tanks that's why that one is so large. Apparently the GT likes it in there.

lights on today about half the eggs remain and most are opague looking. Should I get a male? or wait until the 72 gallon is up & running. Right now they are in a 46 gallon bow tank.

Personally, I would wait ;)

Even if the eggs last long enough to hatch the fry aren't likely to make it very long. Even if the parent/s don't eat them the other fish will once they're free-swimming and start wandering off on their own.

all eggs were eaten, not fertilized. I'm going to wait to get her a mate, thanks everyone! Although it would have been cool to have some GT fry! I have tons of convict fry right now......a different tank.
