Ok I made the mistake of not puttin a new pleco in a Quarantine tank and well now I got 2 tanks and my tub infected with ick. Also made the mistake of using the same net in the 3 infected areas granted I didnt know they had ick at the time.

Right now im using Ick Clear by Jungle its worked for me in the past but here is where i need info. My lil rhino has gotten attacked by my cichlids and well I moved him out. Now I bought Melafix just to help aid in fin growth and heal the wound on his head. But is it ok to use the two meds??? Or should I wait till the ick is done with then do melafix???

Hmmm interesting nobody knows??? Oh well im trying it out. Interesting thing bout the ick. My silver dollars are looking better not so many white spots but my male loisellei has more of them. The female JD in there has yet to shot a single white speck and the female loisellei has like maybe 5 specks and none of the Giant Danios show any signs of them either. Granted in my pleco holding tank All of the pleco's show signs of ick. I got to check on my Oscar and L-001 in a bit.

don't waste your time trying to medicate an injury unless there is secondary infection. Treat the ich, and keep the water extremely clean, and your fish will heal on its own. Some fish are going to be more susceptible to ich than others.. but remember, if one fish has it, the whole tank has it.

Oh I know that the whole tank in infected but just found it odd that some have it and yet others dont. Also the injury was showing up like white flesh. Didnt look like fungus or anything just fleshy and is why I wanted to medicate before any secondary infections could set it.

that just means you have a fresh clean wound. keep the water pristine and you shouldn't have any problems with infection.

Gradually raising your water temp to at least 86* for at 10 days will kill the ich. Gradually adding 3 tsp of sea(aquarium) salt/gal (1 tsp/gal/12 hrs) will also kill the ich on it's own without having to raise the temp. However the salt also will aid in infection control and wound repair by increasing the benifical slime on the fish's body. ***Warning***do not use more than 1 tsp/gal of salt if you have any snails of fine scaled fish like; cory, loaches, pleco, etc). Many books recommend against it.
However, I have used both methods combined twice with no effect on my clown loaches, kuli loaches or pleco but it did kill every small snail. The only reason I took the chance is because the clown loaches had the ich the worst.
The last time I had to use these methods was due to not quarantining a new fish (clown loach) properly long enough. I routinely quarantine my fish for two weeks in 3 tsp (15 ml) salt/gal for at least two weeks at 78*. Or 86* for at least 10 days for this case. If I strictly adhear to these proceedures I have and had no problems.
I have all of the fish mentioned above, except the cory, and always try to maintain between 1/2 & 1 tsp/gal in my tank year round. I've never use chemicals.
*Raising the temp over 86* not only speeds up the ich cycle but also being over 85* does not allow the ich "spores" to attach to a new host.
Do not delay treatment.

Melafix is only guaranteed safe with API's own range of medications, but in practise I have known people use it with other brands with no problems.
