Well, it's been 5 months since I got my wild Heckels and they're doing great! I don't get much time to kick back and play on the computer- but I have an actual day off today (no work- no chores) Well, okay, I did a water change-but that's fun and I do it at least once a week. But the water is cloudy so I'm relying on pics I took a couple of weeks ago.
I actually have another discus that I got at the LPS (my wife actually made me get it!) And lo and behold- It helped the wilds learn to eat flake food! It also calmed them down (It's an osmosis thing- they calmed down some- he schized out some- they met in the middle behaviorally speaking) He's a Red turquoise of some sort but really likes the tank and his friends. I call him a HE because- as they mature they let their "parts" down sometime and his is a boy ovipositor. Oh, to be a teenage Discus.
So I have that wild hope that there may be some breeding- at least a S.discus-S.aquafasciata cross.
I picked up a ninety gal and have it in the kitchen just in case I need to raise out some babies- they'd get the glass bottom- but the wilds really seem to thrive in the full planted habitat-a-rama.
first shot is a close-up, second is the tank (I can't figure out how to ehttp://www.jeffravage.com/images/discus52010.jpgmbed a pic and then continue with text on this editor, although I just got a clue):
