I decided to pull out a few from a batch of 150+ frys to possibly grow out. They are getting nice a fat at the age of almost 2 months. Going to need to sell off the rest unless I want to set up a few more tanks.

Here is a video of them. It's in between wc and feeding so some o2 gassing from the water. They get 2-3 times 70% WC daily and plenty of feeding.

Enjoy

Thanks!

Yes.. Lots of water change because I feed them frozen beefheart (basically wc after each feeding). The FBH does a nice job of fouling the water and I only use sponge filter in this 20 gallons tank. With dry food, I can leave the tank for a day wihtout wc. They are constantly eating (about 7-8 times feed a day).

These frys came from a Red marlboro pigeon with SS gene and a silver pigeon. Short video here. http://s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu341/DiscusOnly/?action=view&current=IMG_0069.flv

very cute! The parents look nice, the babies will be pretty pigeons too I bet. I don't really get the inheiritance for different strains, will they mostly look red but carry the silver gene?

It's really tricky with this pair. The dad came from a cross himself with snakeskin gene and possible albino gene as well. The mom, I don't have a family tree but is a silver pigeon.

Since they are both pigeon, They are all pigeon with yellow based babies. This is why all the babies are yellow with a bunch that has lots of peppering. I have a feeling that the peppered ones will be more like red discus. It will be another 2-3 months before they begin to develop color. Remember, these frys are only 2 months old (not pretty now) but once they get to 9-12 months, most of their color would have been developed.

Interesting, I thought yellow or albino would be recessive, red dominant. Is the silver an albino strain or ? I get confused wrt yellow & gold as I have golden (brown) crosses, all look like turks LOL.

They are yellow based.. Not yellow. The silver color will come in later. These are not going to be yellow crystal.
