havn't seen him attack them... but they keep ending up dead floating on the top...

And I have seen him take down a dead one from the top to the bottom to 'chow'.

I think he is getting them at night, and taking a day or two to devour them...

Ahhh the (expensive) circle of life...

Fish are opportunistic. Any fish will eat another dead one. If you haven't seen him attacking one of them, then he might not have anything to do with their deaths.

What else is in the tank, how large is the tank, and what are your parameters?

I would also like to know how long the congos have been in the tank

If he can fit them in his mouth he will eat them.

They wait until the tetras go to sleep at night and can't see very well, and then they sniff them out and eat them.

Seems likely to me the ropefish would simply eat them when he caught them, not kill them then wait until later.

Most fish will definitely eat any dead ones, but it may be a problem with the Congo Tetras dying off rather then being attacked. Same questions as the others: time in tank/other occupants/parameters?

Ropefish diet normally includes small live fish. The more small fish you put into the tank the happier your rope will be. The bigger the fish gets on the way to it max size of around 3 ft., the bigger the prey it will try to consume.
