View Full Version : Over excited catfish
Hey there, can anyone help me - my catfish (not sure what type it is probably an upside down one, he's about 6 inches but does have a few bristles) got over excited and made it out the top of my tank. I managed to save him and carefully clean him up but i noticed his big feeler thing (barbel i think) on one side has broken and come off. Will this grow back? And is there anything i can do to ensure that he recovers properly from any other injuries he's caused himself? I cant see any other than a white patch he’s now got on his side – could this be skin/scale damage? I'm really quite fond of him and want to try my best! Thanks :)

I had that happen to a featherfin before and he was out of the water for at least an hour. The barb should grow grow back and the burn should heal also. I would do daily water changes to keep the water pristine and dose with Prime by seachem( full tank dose) to help with his slime coat. All should be ok. Best of luck, fnc.

Just keep the water clean and he should heal up fine. I've had several Synodontis that lost barbels to aggressive tankmates, and some that were mssing several patches of skin, particularly the multi's when they spawn. In a few weeks or so they look good as ever.
