View Full Version : I want to see my cories!

Since I added lots of live plants and rocks 2 weeks ago to my 40g, I have hardly seen my 12 cories (6 peppers & 6 julii). In the daytime, they do their own things, hiding behind the plants and rocks. At night some of them occasionally come to the front side of the tank.

When the tank had only a couple rocks, all of them were very active and swimming up and down constantly.

I wouldn't mind not seeing them if they are merry. So, do all those hiding places provided by plants and rocks make them merrier?

For sure they're happy with all the plants you've given them... When I planted my tank, I left the front open for viewing and also to give my cories open forage space.

having the rocks and plants gave them places to hide and relax, or they're still adjusting to the new surroundings. I guess this made them chill out a bit and just be lazy lol.

actually, I have sterbai that are really shy in my planted tank. Kinda wished I saw them more often but they act like wild catfish now. They only come out when I'm not around and if they see any movement outside of the tank, they bolt for cover.

I did the same.

My julii occasionally venture into the open space but my peppers are hiding at inconspicuous places (e.g., sitting on a suction cup behind an Eheim intake pipe!).

My 6 large Julii corys always remain hidden behind plants and also hide in a cave beneath a driftwood log. They only come out from their resting places during feeding times. They seem to prefer the environment that provides them added security.

The lone peppered cory I have left from an ick attack swims freely thorughout my tank. Mine is planted so that there are great viewing areas + lots of cover.
