I recently switched my reef tank lighting to ATI sunpower 4 bulbs and as much as i love the colors now i still miss the shimmer. Fortunately i do have one of nanotuners par38 LED bulbs. I was wondering if the addition of this bulb (which i know would add shimmer) would be to much light for the set up for would work out nicely.
what are your thought?!
ill have pics as soon as tuesday rolls around with the ATI fixture over the tank. chalices never looked better ;)

Back it away from the water a bit and try it if shimmer is all you are looking for. What kind of optic do you have on it?

im pretty sure its 80 optic i had orderd it for the pico i stopped maintaining at the moment. as long as it wont be much to light added to the water i would really like to add the LED to add the shimmer.

80 may be a bit much with the ATI, at least in that vicinity initially. Any way you can aim it up front, say in the sand bed? That'd actually look pretty cool--shimmer on the sandbed. You could also just keep it further away for a while and slowly lower it.

By aim it up front do you mean shoot it through the glass on to the sand bend? (sorry kind of confused) i thought about making a fixture with an adjustable arm to fix the bulb into and slowly raising it little by little.

Right, but the second option you mentioned would be my first choice, personally.

if youre worried about it being too intense i can try to make a single blue led if you have the ability to mount a ring box sized heatsink
