Well I have Firemouth cichlids and I am wondering if , during spawning, the Firemouths will rip the GBRs to sheads. I don't want to go from:eek3:>:barf:>:(
I have 46 gal btw and two young Firemouths.

Wow, I hve posted the last three threads on the Central/south American Cichlid channle :-P

I wouldn't put those two fish in the same tank, but not just because the Firemouths would probably kill the Rams. Rams prefer warmer water temps like in the low to mid 80s. Firemouths are better in the mid to upper 70s. Somebody will have to be uncomfortable. It's even worse imo than putting Goldfish with Tropicals because the difference in temp range preferences are actually closer than the example of Firemouths and Rams.

Even when not breeding I think a single FM would cause big trouble for a GBR -- I have one now that goes after a polleni that's twice as large. I used to have a different FM that liked to munch on other fish's eyes.....so I guess I would be very careful and have a plan ready if trouble starts.

Good luck!

I would not mix those fish.

Firemouths claim a relatively large territory, along with being more aggressive than rams and preferring a little cooler temps. I have some cutteri available that would mix more evenly with the firemouths in that size tank.
