i posted a similar thread recently wanting an interesting fish - but i have decided i am going to get a schooling fish
tank - 55g
other inhabitants
4 angel fish (young)
3 different types of gourami , moonlight, platinum, honey
5 cories
2 pictus cats (might be giving them to fishypoo soon)

here's what i'm thinking

school of hatchets
or
lemon tetras or pristella tetras or cardinal or rummynose
i want some color - i really want some cardinals but what are the chances they get eaten by my angels eventually?
i'm thinking 7 hatchets 7-10 cardinals maybe a few golden zebras as well
whatcha think any suggestions?

I would stiock with a larger tetra like the lemon or even the rummy nose if it were my tank. Hatchets are very pretty though, but they are horribly good at jumping out of tanks.

LMB, if you feel like taking a little trip this weekend, head to Rumsford pet in Providence. They had those gold tetras that were really impressive. They looked like gold foil in a school. It was a very nice look.

tomm i suoppose that may be a possibilty - the pic of the gold tetra was awesome looking - do you remember how much they were each?
were they about the size of a lemon tetra?
up close are the nicer looking that neon rosy barbs - i'm not a big fan of those -
but the gold tetra was cool looking -
i might take a ride on sat!

i'm thinking
6-7 hatchets
6-7 cardinals or
maybe gold tetras
i really need a small schooling fish to fill the middle of my tank out
something peaceful but something that won't become lunch

LMB, I don't remember the cost at all. They were a little under 2" I guess. Looks like they can grow to 2".

You might want to call ahead to make sure they still have them

I wouldn't get the cardinals, and would be cautious about the rummy's. The angels would most likely eventually make a snack out of all the cardinals, its just what they do, it will fit in their mouth and tastes good so why not? The rummy's get bigger so you could get away with it I think, as long as you got the rummy's big enough so they wouldn't fit in the angel's mouth. I'd go with a larger tetra though, like Serpaes or diamonds, maybe congos.

I don't necessarily agree that the cardinals will be eaten by the angels. I'm not sure how tight they will school though and will stay near the bottom. They are fairly delicate fish too.

I think if you go with the rummynose you will be happy.
