I recently bought a 10 g that I sunk into the front of my bar in the wreckedddd room and was thinking about moving my AC 150 into that tank and buying a canister for my 20 g. What would be a good size for the 20 with approx 15 community fish?? ...do all the different brands come with a flow adjustment (I couldn't tell by their facts sheets on most web sites) that I can control on the 20 if I was looking down the road at a larger tank and wanted an oversize canister for now on the 20 ... say something that would fit a 50 g that I can tame for the 20 now ;)
Thx Joe

Filstar XP3 comes with a flow control. I had it on my 29 and with about half the flow, then moved it to my 55 at full flow.
I use Eheim 2211s on 20s routinely. I have used them on 15s as well.

Thx, is there some form of flow control on the classic Eheims or do they simply run full out .... just trying to get a feel here as info on adjustable flow control is non existent. I would love to be able to buy a canister that will handle something larger then the 20 later but work with the 20 now without being to disturbing to the inhabitants :(

The easiest flow control is just the aim of the spraybar return. If aimed parallel to the surface and just below the surface, current is maximized. If rotated to aim directly at the nearby back wall on the tank where it is mounted, or very slightly down from parallel to the surface, flow is minimized. In between, flow is obviously between those extremes.
The spraybar can also be customized by drilling more or larger holes, maintaining the same turnover volume, but reducing the flow rate.
