Hi,

I've never had Cichlids before but i now have a 240 Litre (63 us Gallon)

I really want a big Cichlid that will be ok with smaller fish.

Only one that seems ok after looking this up is a Severum? - here is my list so far!

1 Severum
6 Corydoras

3 Red Rainbowfish
3 Bosemans Rainbow fish

1 Plec
1 Rainbow Shark
1 Angel Fish

Hoping the above will be ok together but also interested in having the following.

1 Blue Acara
1 Convict Cichlid
1 Chocolate Cichlid

Any suggestions on if they would all be ok together and what other options i would have?

Thanks

:welcome: to AC!

Hmmm..What species is your pleco? I'm more comfortable with smaller species of plecos (6 inches max) such as bristlenose and clowns for any tank at least 75g and below. Common plecos will need to be rehomed as they take up a lot of space and bioload for a 63g tank.

A single severum will work. They are quite mild mannered. I'd choose just either sev or uaru though I prefer sevs more since they are available in various colors and more elegant.:D

Angelfish are cichlids by the way so you're not really new to keeping your first cichlids. Hehe...I'd remove the rainbow shark but I feel uncomfortable in general with labeos being combined with cories. They tend to be aggressive even as adults.

Convicts are an absolutely no-no. They are not community fish and will find a lot of time harassing their other tankmates around.

red parrot cichlids, severums & angels are best with smaller fish

I dont have any of the above yet but was either interested in 1 common pleco or maybe 3-4 clown pleco?

If i did not get the rainbow fish do you have any suggestions what else i could have without overstocking!

Get a clown pleco or bristlenose instead. They're smaller than the commons that can reach 12" and above. You could always give 6 Melanotaenia praecox a shot.:)

Don't forget about keyhole cichlids and rainbow cichlids. Both are mellow for cichlids.
Personally, I don't see a problem with an angel, sev, and a keyhole or rainbowcichlid existing in the same tank as say 6 rainbowfish and a school of cories.I have kept a female convict in a community setting before but that was my only experience.
