My Blood Parrot cichlid was being rather abusive to my other fish, so I made him a fishy prison until his new 20 gal tank comes in.

I'll be getting it tomorrow. I put the water from the 55 gallon into a big rubbermaid tote and am running a filter on that and waiting to put him in the new tank soon.

The top is open so he still gets fed, and is in his normal conditions just blocked off from abusing the other tank mates

Good idea. You don't need to use water from the existing tank though, it won't benefit anything. just make sure there is some sort of filter media from the 55 or sand to help the cycle, and since he's going right in, keep a close eye on params.

thats what I did. squeezed the Mag filter into the aqua tech and water and am letting that run over night.

Oh he does not look happy. See what happens when you don't play nice with the other kids? If he was a convict cichlid, the picture would've been priceless!

My, what colorful zipties you have!

I used quik-crete play sand from Lowes. The only thing about it is RINSE RINSE RINSE and when you think it's done, rinse again. But it was like 3.00$ for 50lbs

so it turns out the free 20 gallon tank was only a 10 gallon. I know that isn't enough space for him. I have a topfin 60 filter on the tank hoping it will be enough. I found a tank, just the tank, that's a 30 long for 25$. I'm pretty sure that's a good deal. and I think a lone fish would be alright in that setup. Any input?

The $25 for a 30 gallon tank is a decent price if it hasn't been used. I think Petco is running their $1/gallon sale, so if they are near you, that could be a good option.
