I'm getting a breeding pair of GBR's and wanted a 2nd opinion on whether or not I could keep them in a 10g. It would be lightly planted and it would have some structure for them to be in. I would use PlaySand from Lowes as a substrate and have a flowerpot, some amazon swords, the top of a coconut buried in the ground so it made a depression, and maybe a few rocks. Would just a pair, with no other fish do OK in there? Thanks :)

I wouldn't put 1 GBR in a 10, let alone a pair. They get pretty big and are very active. I kept one in a 20 long, and almost felt bad about it. I wouldn't go smaller than that. Good luck breeding them!

I would recommend a larger tank 20 or 20 long
if it's breeding pair you may want to consider bare bottom for ease of maint.

I agree with above. A 20 long would be great for them.

Yeah, you're much better off with at least 20g. Water parameters will be more stable.

I want to point out that it has been done, however, generally it is only to isolate the pair during breeding and not for long term housing. Better in a 20 long IMHO.

20 gallon minimum. a 10 can be used to hold fry for a few weeks though.
