Anyone have any good articles, info, links on starting a daphnia culture?

I was thinking of doing something in a 10g tank.

Also .. where to get a good, healthy starter batch from.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I just got a batch going by accident. I was keeping some java moss clippings for a friend in a glass jar by the window. After a week I started to see Daphnia. All kinds the jar was full. I decided to raise Daphnia, nothing to do at all just watch and take when you needed some. It all ended rather sudden though. My girlfriend got tired of looking at the jar and threw the whole thing out.

Consider Moina if you're culturing indoors.

Yeah, I will be culturing indoors. I probably won't have much access to green water, although I might come up w/ a creative way to grow some. Window sills are not really and option for me as I have cats around the house. ;)

Heard a few things about Gerber sweet potatoes as food.

thanks for the link.

P.S. anyone ever use Spirulina powder????????????

I had a friend who raised them quite succesfully using juice from a juice machine. He said the best was beet and carrot juice. The daphnia turned the colour of which ever juice he was using. He would add just enough to lightly tint the water then when the water cleared up he would add more. You need somewhat cool temperatures for daphnia and very little water movement. Use large size bubbles as small fine ones can cause them difficulty.
