Hello everyone! I have decided it is time to replace my little giant pump. It flows a VERY healthy 800gph through my Ocean Clear canister but as a result it is pretty loud and heats up the water & as a result my room (with the water reaching over 82) during the summer. I think that is making my fish more aggressive toward each other and skittish toward me. So I've decided that I don't really need that much flow in my 120 gallon (in addition to the XP4) so I am looking for a pump recommendation that can handle the 2nd half of the filtration pumping duties while being quiet and transferring as little heat as possible to the water. I have the pump hooked inlet side to a bulkhead at the bottom of the tank then out through the ocean clear and back up to a spray pointer at the bottom of the tank total pipe length is just over 2 & 1/2 ft Thank you in advance for any help.

Since you have a pressure system set up there really isn't much else that can handle the duties. Coral Sea and Iwaki pumps are known to be good as well.

The plumbing layout sounds good, Iwaki MD20RLT would be my choice. It flows 420 gph and is designed for pressure applications like an OceanClear. It uses the Japanese motor which is worth the premium you pay over the American motored WMD series. If you don't want to buck up for the Iwaki I'd suggest a Blueline 20MD. It's basically an Iwaki WMD knockoff, designed by a former chief engineer at Walchem which manufactures American Iwakis (thus the "W" in the model #) and it costs a good bit less.

Thank you both of you for your replies! I'm ordering the Iwaki MD20RLT now. If that doesn't get me to where I want to be with the noise could I run an eheim or FX5 in place of the current setup? I am running an XP4 on the right side of the tank and it seems to do ok.
