View Full Version : New Cories - are these Agassizis?

I brought four cory catfish home from the fish store the other day. I think they're Agassizis, but I thought I might get some verification here. The tank had a label listing the price of Agassizis, but when I asked the guy there what kind these were he said, "I'm not sure, I know they aren't Agassizis." Price was the same either way and I thought they were nice looking fish so I brought home 4. I wish I bought more, but at the time I was buying them for my 20 high, and 4 seemed like plenty. The three spot gourami in that tank had other plans, though, and I moved them to my 20 long temporarily, but I'm pretty sure I'll be putting them in 55 after about a month.

So here are the pictures. Like I said, pretty sure they're Agassizis but maybe I'm missing something:

Well I'll be. They do look a lot like Schwartz's Cories, I think you're right. Although I'm still looking at pictures of those and Agassizis trying to figure out how to tell the difference. Either way they're very cool fish.

There is supposed to be a spot on the base of the dorsal fin on agassizis.

schwartzi is my guess too, by the 3 lines of spots on their sides. Very cute!

I'm leaning in that direction. I actually didn't like Cories much until I bought them, now I see that everybody was right. They're really cool. I think they had at least 4 more when I was there, so I might get them.

thanks for all the help everyone. I think my problem sometimes is I use google image search and there are always mis-labeled images there. Not all of what shows up as Agassizis have the extra dark bar at the base of the dorsal fin, so I thought maybe that wasn't always on them. But I think those other pictures I saw were actually Schwartzis too.
