My german blue rams spawned while I was on vacation!!!! The females tube is still out so I don't think it was that long ago! This is their second spawn. The first on they ate almost as soon as they laid the eggs then the male started terrorizing the female. So after seperate conditioning I put them together and left for vaca and now there is a group of eggs on the driftwood! I'll see if I can get pics up in a little bit!

Well the eggs are still there! Very few have turned white and the majority that have turned, have been removed. They are doing a very good job! I feel kind of bad that they have to work so hard to keep the other fish away from the eggs. Mollies and black ruby barbs just don't care what the rams think. They just want food!

How do you generally raise the fry?

I haven't ever had cichlids spawn before but what I usually do with other fish (and what I am going to do with these) is just leave them in the tank. My LFS won't take them and I don't feel comfortable shipping so if any survive they usually stay in that tank for life or I may rehome them locally. That being said I may start shipping if the pair gets too good at defending the fry from hungry mouths.

Well the eggs hatched but all the babies were eaten. The parents are still looking after the empty eggs, odd.........
Better luck next time. My german ram eggs hatched and after 3-4 days did not see them anymore. Eaten?
