how long have you had the shrimp? did you get it recently or have you had it a while? and, how did you acclimate it to the tank when you got it if it was recently?

ive had it about a week. and for acclimation, i dropped the bag in the water for 20 minutes, and then added a little bit of my tanks water every 20 min after that. for about two hours.
was this wrong? could there be trace elements of copper in my water supply? is there any way to test?
thanx

sounds like acclimation was fine, could be copper, but you'd have to buy a copper test kit to find out. The bad thing about buying one is your probably only going to use it 1 time, but it's worth it if you are losing inverts.

thanx again. could i possibly try a hardier invert? something like a few hermit carbs or so? see how they fair? could it be possible for my cbs to die just naturally?

Are you sure it just didn't molt and it is still alive hiding somewhere? Shrimps will molt their body to grow and can be confused with a dead shrimp. Anyway, if you are sure it is not a molt then not sure why it died. What does ammonia and nitrite look like? Anyway, hope this helps and sorry for your loss.

ammonia was not present, and not sure what nitrites were off the top of my head, nothing outstanding thats for sure
