Hi,

I finally recieved my XP3 friday and let me say that it was not a quick install as my setup is little messy. Having said this, after only two days, my tank has never been clearer and I am planing on getting another one as a a bio only filter.

Pros: Easy setup, great cleaning, great flow!!!!, Good quality construction and finally, great price!!!!!!

Cons: Spray bar makes too much noise. The powerjet flow is way too strong (yes I know you can use the regulator but this would limit the flowrate) Make the holes a bit bigger and you will diffuse the flow rate but not lose flow.

Overall: Wonderful cheap filter.

I have an xp-3 and really love mine. I can't wait for my Fluval's to break so I can replace them with another Filstar.:D

Yep it is the best filter I have ever bought for $79! I use one in my 90 gallon brackish tank for mechanical filtration and a wet/dry for the biological filtration and my tank always sparkles! I had 2 fluval 404's in the tank before and they both leaked around the cannister seal.

Well :( I wanted to order another one today but it seems that Bigals has increased the price of the XP3 from 89.00 to 99.00 plus shipping. Although a good price, I can almost get it around here for a bit more and in less time.

What is maintenance like on filstars? Is it easy to take apart without spilling water and easy to get going again after cleaning?

Well, in the short time that I was playing with it, I found it to be very easy to work with. I will give you a better description in a month when I clean it. :)

PS: The water in my tank had an brown tanin color to it, but after two days it is crystal clear!!!

Pop the quick release hoses off the top and carry the canister to the sink/tub.. couldn't be easier and less messy :dance

I was just curious if the xp3 from fostersmith is the new advanced version with self-priming and the black/blue fittings with handles on the canister? I'm wanting to buy one from there but I've read that the original version is still out there at some places and I called them and they weren't sure which version they had. Supposedly the newer versions work much better. I know that the originals have all black hardware and no self-priming.

thanks
