Last week I pulled out most of my Val (wanted more room) almost 100 plants--no kidding. The tanks looks so much better. I also have a few pieces of driftwood in the tank, some over 20 years old. I would like to remove these as well. Do BN need driftwood to eat??

It's highly recommended as a source of fiber :)

Also, you don't have any extra Val or driftwood for sale do you? I'm in the bay too lol

yes, bn plecos definitely need some wood in their diet to aid in the digestive processes. depending on how many plecos you have in the tank you may be able to remove some of the wood pieces and just leave one or two behind, tucking them in amongst plants if you don't care for the look of the old wood.

Whether they need it or not I don't know for sure but mine sure makes use of it!

You may be able to pull out the wood as long as you have something for them such as Sera Catfish Chips with willow and alder wood pellets or perhaps you can replace the wood with some artsy type of sticks and make a stick sculpture or trees (with mosses on top of the sticks) or something.

Yeah, they need the lignin in their diet. You could replace the old wood with newer stuff though. :)
