Just wondering, can i keep my 10gallon tank outside at my backyard with some koi? i didn't have a filter there but i got plenty plants in there. The location I am living is San Francisco.

I would have to say no. The main factor being is that a 10gal is not of adequate size to house koi let alone a goldfish. Not having filtration is a problem also. Another problem (if you have cooler weather) with a tank outside is that there is no insulation. In ground ponds and even above ground ponds have some form of insulation around them, however tanks do not.

:iagree: and, I imagine in San Francisco it gets pretty warm, too. You will cook those fishies in a heartbeat. Doesn't take long at all for a small amount of water to heat up, even shaded. Just one koi can get to 2 feet long or more, too. Waaay too big for a 10 gallon tank.

You need a pond

Lol oh wow.
No. The tank would be too small. maybe some snails but other than that no.

that would be a negative.

You could give a betta a summer vacation. Or maybe some small gouramis. Antaboids would be the best bet for an unfiltered tank.

I also live in SF. What area do u live in? With the constant up and down of the weather over here outside is just not ideal for fishies. I mean one day it's freaking warm here, the next you'd think it was late fall/early winter! uggh haha

i wouldn't do it, without filtration all you would end up with is sick or dead koi.
i would just put a few minnows or guppies with the plants and let nature do its thing :)
