Hi Rachel, How big are the goodieds? Do you think they would be okay in my pond?
msjinkzd
08-03-2010, 12:40 PM
The fry are about 1", I do have some subadults as well that I could part with. They are temperate water (cooler water) and would do fine in a pond. They are also good algae eaters.

I have 40 apisto cacautoides "orange" fry in grow out now. They are 2 weeks old.

are you selling them as sexable adults later or sets of juvies?
and if juvies about how old before you sell any??
thanks

08-03-2010, 9:59 PM
well right now they are teeeeeny, just really becoming food seeking fully. I pulled them at day 1 of hatching when they still sat sort of still and mama guarded. Once they hit 1/2" I can sell them as groups unsexed for cheap, or grow them out until a sexable size. With cacautoides, it can sometimes be hard to tell the sexes until they are nearing maturity and get the tell-tale anal fin shape. So far so good, zero losses and 40 or so babies. I am also waiting on my aggis to spawn and my triple reds to pull the fry. Making a more concerted effort this time around.
I guess the clear answer is if you want them young in a group, they will be quite inexpensive. If I grow them out to sexable size, it will take more time and cost more for them.

msjinkzd

I have probably 30 or some lampeyes left so I expect to have them at least another week or two.

how old are those amanos? are they old enough to be in a freshwater tank yet? also how do you ship/fees?
msjinkzd
08-04-2010, 1:16 PM
the amanos are about 1-1.25", so subadult. They are in full freshwater. I ship typically usps (priority is perfectly fine for amanos) which is from $5-10 depending on postal zone and quantity.

They breed, I just have not pulled the fry and female is nasty to them once they become food seeking. I will try and pull the fry next time now that I have 2.5g tanks for the initial raising.

Yes, I have a few left at $5 each

I am waiting on the inkas to spawn again, hopefully soon. I don't have any currently available. The apistos I keep are sort of for me, I dont' stress about collecting the fry or selling them. I have collected a bunch of apisto cac "orange" babies and am anticipating another triple red spawn as well.
This is the male of hte new pair I am working with (tefe "blue"). Hopefully soonas the female is in full colors now as well.

I am interested in getting some Green spikey nerites, zebra nerites, Pomacea diffusa babies and towuti white spot snails. I may pick up some plants as well and see that you may have plants other than what is listed. Do you have a list of other plants and prices? I need to find out what the shipping cost would be to Columbus, Ohio 43228.
Couldn't find an option to pm, so posted.

Hey Rach what is your experience with ameca splendens? I have a BBA issue. I have read inconsistent things about them with brush algae. Also in terms of aggression in a community tank?
msjinkzd
08-14-2010, 6:33 PM
Well I know I used to have brush algae in their tank and no longer do and I did nothing for it. I have never specifically put them to the test. As far as a community setting, no clue. I have kept them with amano shrimp and cories but never with any other fish. They are boisterous and need a tank witha decent footprint. They are super super fun fish to keep for sure. I don't see them as being agressive as much as just plain energetic.

I'd like to buy some spikey nerites and some zebra nerites. I have a 50g that I recently started plants in and am having a hard time getting it balanced and have lots of algae probs. I've read they eat green spot etc. well. How would 3 zebra and 2 spikey do in a tank that size? New to buying on here so please hold my hand... :P
Also what about some water sprite?
msjinkzd
08-17-2010, 1:21 PM
They will eat green spot, but not as efficiently as they do the softer sheet algaes. That is the perfect stocking ratio for your tank size.
Also, you have learned my secret plant keeping shame...I am probably the only person who KILLS water sprite like its going out of style, sigh.

So, no furcatas this time around? I do like gertrudes, but furcatas are hotter :D

You'll definitely need to get some more furcatas in :) I feel bad keeping the last of your beautiful colony to myself! Even though I found out my neighborhood garage breeder had 100+ in a tank I always had overlooked... doh!
