Does anyone keep Dwarf Neon Rainbows? If so, can you please tell me something about them? I have done some research, but would like to hear about real experiences. Are they the bright blue the pictures show? How big do they get? Are they peaceful?????? Are they fast swimmers, zipping from end to end? Nervous fish? I am stocking a 55 gal and want a nice peaceful tank. Have playts, neons, H. rasboas, serpea tetras, corys, and hatchets so far. Just took out 5 Congo tetras, because they zipped from end to end, none stop, making all the other fish nervous and upset. Would appreciate any information on the dwarf neon rainbows or advice.
TIA Anna
Dwarf Neon Rainbows are even better colored than most of their pictures, as the blue colors are refractile rather than pigments, so are not always easy to capture in pics. But they are Rainbowfish, and are sleek and fast. They are not hyperactive like the Danios, but they are active fish. I would suspect that if you did not like the Congos, you will not care for DNR either. If you are looking for a stately calm tank, they may not be the best choice.
Were the Congos near-grown or full-grown? Their size may have been intimidating along with their activity and likely would have been adjusted to by the other fish with time, but the activity level would still have been there,

Don't know if you have seen this site yet but it is great and has an awesome pic of these fish. http://members.optushome.com.au/chelmon/Praecox.htm
Rainbowfish aren't lightning quick, all over the place like danios (as RTR mentioned). They are fairly quick moving but I don't think they will stress your fish too much. Dwarf neons don't get as big as other rainbowfish either.

Well I just started a tank and have a male/female pair of neon rainbow, so I can't say for the mature size. But as far as their behaviour goes, they seem good for the general community I have (black neon, lemon tetra, platy, otto). I haven't observed they stressing other fish at all. They do at times swim abit faster then average but not to the point dashing around like mad fish.
While YMMV, especially in higher number of them together, my male/female pair stay tight. About 90% of the time, they are within 2 inch of each other which is quite cute. I also like their (supposedly) small size.
And yes, the true color is hard to capture with camera. Go see one for yourself. Do check out this post tho, unbelievable pic!! http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23161
Well, the first hour of light every day is pretty active - this is spawning time, with male shimmying in front of females, rival males chases, etc., without even counting the spawning runs through the Java Moss. After that they are more "normal" but still not sedate.

i have dwarfs in a 55g community tank. i had 2 males and 3 females, but now im down to 1 male and 1 female. the male is about an inch and a half and the female is smaller. as stated above, theyre active fish but not as active as danios. personally i havent seen a picture that does them justice. theyre nice looking fish and natural sunlight really brings out the color. very good rainbow community fish.

Yea it's a great site for rainbowfish info. I really like them too. My girlfriend has 3 australians and I just got 3 ornates. Their colours are great! My 3 ornates are young and getting an excellent diet, I'm hoping to bring out their full potential.
