View Full Version : Too much for GBR?

Long story short. I just recently acquired a GBR. The tank is well established and it was in the tank for a little over 3 weeks. I went on vacation for about 5 days and had a family member care for the tank. And while I was out of town my tank was scheduled for a water change. Anyways, within a day of coming home, my new GBR had died.

I believe my family member had over fed the fish and I should have performed a water change before I went out of town.

I tested my nitrates when i came home and they were 30 ppm(usually 15-20ppm or less between water changes).

Is this a fatal level for a gbr? I am trying to determine a cause of death for him. It might have just been a culmination of things.

Thanks,
-Chris

IME no...I regularly had NO3 between 30-40 ppm with my blue rams before I planted the tank and upped the water changes. I'd be more inclined to think it was just overall stress from the acclimation, weak stock, or a combination of the two.
