I bought a gold ram that is supposed to be a male (the store owner says she can't get any females out of her wholesaler) and after trying him in my 36 gallon "semi-aggressive" tank, I moved him to my 55 gallon community tank because my gold gourami was relentlessly chasing him in the 36. the 55 has lots of tetras of different types, zebra danio's, mollies, platies, cories, etc. At first most of the fish were afraid of him, especially an orange lyretail molly that he wanted to hang out with. After a day or so they accepted him and he follows the mollies around mostly. I even caught him topwater with the mollies last night, cleaning stray flakes out of my floating hornwort. No one seems to hang out with him though and I can't help but think he's lonely but I don't want to add a female in case they would nest and become aggressive. I ran into a single bolivian ram (also believed to be a male) at another store this weekend. What are the chances that I could add him to the same tank and be ok? Do you think they would spar all the time? Are the bolivians more likely to attack lesser fish? Also, the bolivian has had his fins nipped. Do the fins grow back or are they going to stay this way? thanks, Kyle

I believe that bolivians are more aggressive than regular rams. I think a female would be okay in a 55 with a male, even if they weren't a pair. Most likely, in time, they will pair up.

I believe the fin would grow back if you're talking about the tail....

Puma.... I'm a little confused.....are you saying that a female bolivian and male golden would pair up and nest?
