I got a cleaner shrimp today finally. I have been looking for a health looking one for months and found a good one that has been in the back at the LFS. But when I got home with him I was walking in with the bag in my hand looking at him. The guy that lives in the next building seen me and asked if I had a SW tank. I said yeah and he said that he was goin to an aggressive tank and wanted to know if i wanted a small coral banded shrimp he has had about three weeks. I have a 55gl can I have both of these in the same tank. It seems like i remember reading that the CB shrimp is kinda agressive towards other shrimp? any ideas out there?

Thanks as always,
Shane

Chances are you won't be able to keep any other shrimp with a CBS.

I am not speaking from experience but from what I have read unless you buy a compatible pair CBS like to be alone. However, everything I read states they get along just fine with other species of shrimp.

If Brian has experience in this I would go with his suggestion. Otherwise maybe read up a little more on it and give it a shot if the literature says its fine.

I'm with Brian on this one. I haven't done the experiment, but have the impression that CBS will attack other shrimp.

I've got a 90 galllon tank with a cbs and a small group of peppermint shrimp. They seem to get along jjust fine. Most of the time they don't even really seem to notice each other . At the most the cbs will display at the peppermints and they move away. They have to get really close to even trigger that responce. They have been maintained in the same tank for the last couple of months with no issues. I don't know if I'm just lucky or what.

Also have a CB with a Peppermint for 2 months now. Never seem the two close yet. When I bought the CB I thought I could keep it with another shrimp.

So can I have two cleaner shrimp in my 55gal. ? Easily. I have a pair in my 20. They spend most of their time together, and produce larvae on a regular basis as a source of zooplankton.
