Need explanation of target feeding.

Another NEWBIE ?

I keep seeing the phrase target feeding in these forums.
I assume it is the same as hand feeding , am I wrong ?
Could someone explain a little on how to do this ?

Basically, it's making sure the animal gets food. It can involved using a turkey baster, tongs or your fingers, depending on the animal and the food. I use tongs to put food in front of my serpent star, to be sure it gets enough, for example. Others will use a turkey baster to give a slurry of particles to some corals.

Now with the turkey baster do you just squirt it in the direction of the Starfish or whatever.., or do you try to get the baster in or near the mouth ?
When using fingers , ever get bit ?

For the star, I use the tongs to bring the food close to it, and wait for an arm to grab it.

I get bit all the time by the clowns, and grabbed by the cleaner shrimp, but it mostly tickles. I wouldn't try it with a trigger, though.
