Hi,

I am knew to this sight...

A little background...I like to have aquariums...mostly fresh water...my dh knows more about this stuff then me...I'm always learning.

At this time we have a 55 gallon,

One medium Percustamus
two cat fish...bought at the same time but one is very tiny.

I was told the cat fish were some what aggressive when I got them. I wanted to get a couple more fish that may eat snails and live with the catfish. So a few months later I bought to more bottom feeders.

Now I bought these fish on a whim and not knowing if they would be the best for my tank. And ofcourse I was tired at the time...

I went to this awsome store that usually will be up front and sell you the fish you need for your tank. Usually they know what they are talking about. I've met the owner and he knows everything about all fish...just awsome...Well they pushed me off to 4 different people to finally find someone that would help me find a fish that would work with the cat fish. I also felt this man thought I knew nothing about fish...and wondering if he just couldn't sell them...I should have sad NO and went to the next store. :argh

Ok he sold me something called a Blueberry Buda (or Buta). They have a blue body and a bright orange/red tail. If they will remind you of a clown loach but much thinner. I noticed that these fish are super aggressive and now affraid they will take over the tank. Not what I wanted. Though the snails have dissapeared and that is a good thing. (I suppose hiding)

Please I have looked everywhere on the internet and know where do I find that name??? Does anyone here know what this fish is?? Where it came from?? I need to study it...I may need to divide the tank or something?

PS sorry for all the spelling errors! ;)

Edited to say the catfish will grow large...I think 8 inches or so??

Hey Grail!
Maybe an orange-finned botia (botia modesta)?

Well I am reading up on them and they don't seem to be so aggresive except with other botia's. Mmm maybe it is because there are two of them...even though it states they can be with there own species.

Interesting...I will get them some PCP to swim in...maybe they would like a better hiding space. Though we do have quite a lot of rock in there to hide in. I know this since one of the catfish disapeared for 3 months. We thought he had died until we got these new fish...just seen him this morning. Quite excited about that!!

I will also get some tall grasses. Would it be better to get real or fake grasses? And what type for these buds?

Welcome to Aquaria Central! I have never had personal experience with them but we did have some in the fish store I worked at and they terrorized everything. They might have just been off the wall kind of fish but who knows. Anyway, good luck with them and welcome!

You're welcome! Having a name makes it a lot easier to find info, doesn't it.

It has been years since I have had these guys, but I remember that they get big, and can be scrappy amongst themselves. Fishbase says they get to 10," but I can't remember having seen one bigger than 6".

Yes...I am hoping they grow slowly...if they do get to big I can always start another tank downstairs for them.

This is an awsome site! Thanks for all the welcomes...I think I will stay around for a while! :)
