View Full Version : star fish question
About two weeks ago I added a chocolate chip star (Ringo) . He seems really happy in his slow meandering hanging on the glass kind of way but I never see him eat or poo. I see the turbo snails (cave trolls) eat don't see 'em poo but I do know that they're eating. How do I know if my star is eating???

Have you tried target feeding him something small?
Haven't tried target feeding. Intend to tomorrow. He doesn't seem unhappy though He likes to hang out by the overflows and will stick an arm or two out in to the water and just hang there. (He kind of reminds me of some of my son's friends)

Chocolate Chip Starfish are predators so they require meaty foods. I feed my 5" CCS fresh shrimp or shrimp pellets, or small pieces of scallop or crab meat. He gets fed 1 a week and should probably get fed more but I overfeed that tank a tad to let him eat some so he is active and growing. In order to feed a star you will have to put some food on one of his tentacles and then he will work its way to the mouth. I also put the star on top of a piece of shrimp or whatever and let him eat that way. Anyway, hope this helps.

Chocolate chip starfish will eat ANYTHING thats organic in the aquarium, including lvie rock, algae, snails, oysters, shrimps, and slow moveing or dieing fish. They extend thier stomach around what they want to eat (it will look like a brownish membrain is comming out of it), and then after its digested it spits out the wast products that couldnt be digested, so you wont see it "poo"
