Hi guys, i am from around Montreal, i would like to drive to platsburg (1 hour) from home, is there a good lfs there, or even closer to the border ?

How long can i keep something alive in my car ?

If i get caught with a clean up crew (5-10 snails, 10 hermits, etc...) what will they do ? make me pay for taxes or take them from me ?

If i bring a cooler with me, i could hide them in something, this way they can be in a warmer weather.

What do you think ?

i don't know if there is any LFS around that area, but I would imagine most fish and livestock can survive in a bag for many hours. They do get shipped around the world in bags to the LFS. The longer they stay in the bag the lower the pH gets however, and you have to take greater care when acclimating.

The survival rate depends on how it is packed. Most LFS's dont use O2 in the bags which severely limits the amount of time they will last. A clean up crew will las a lot longer though than a fish would. When fish are shipped around the world they are packed in small amounts of water, not fed for a couple of daysor more, and are packed with pure O2. Most fish can last up to 50 hours when packed this way. You should ask if the LFS that you go to has O2 and if they will use it.

Most of them that I know do not use it. They either have an iar line coming from the blower or they just do the grab and twist on the bag. If they are any good, they can do that :) If you ever see someone blow into the bag to fill it up, ask for someone else to bag the fish for you.
